What’s Important?
About 90% of my time has been spent inside.
The majority of my time is spent hacking away on my computer or meeting with Pastor Marc - the director of Haiti Arise.
If any of you are like me, then this would seem like a ridiculous reason to go to Haiti. Why would I come all this way - and not help out? Andrew you should go out there -build something, give away your clothes, food, money, pants, underwear, socks, shoes. Come home broke and naked because then you would’ve “expended yourself on behalf of the poor and needy”.
I think that stuff is good
- actually it’s really great.
However, if that is the solution to the problem then it would already be fixed. The mounds of shirts and pants in the open markets or the mounds of food piled right onto the streets would show that all is well. Throw a couple of tents up and *poof* the basic needs of Haitians are met. It’s time to leave the country because CNN has a new special on.
However, both you - on your bed with your laptop or at a desk in your cozy computer chair
and me,
- on a curb, sweating of course, surrounded by really really black people and in the epicenter of the quake zone
- we would both agree that life is more than that.
I am currently 1 of 2 men writing a proposal to the Canadian Government in hopes of rebuilding the Christian Vocational School that was destroyed because of the earthquake. The vocational school was in a sense the heartbeat for many in the area. With all programs in place, we seek to directly affect over 11,000 people in the upcoming year alone.
Oh how I hope and pray all this proposal ‘stuff’ goes through and the school is rebuilt - because although I have not laid a single brick or handed a single shirt out - I have truly expended myself producing word documents and spread sheets.
Thanks for praying and supporting me to come here.
Oh - and outside church was yesterday. Show up 15 mins early and you won’t find a seat. I was able to pray at the front for the whole body - 600 strong. Dave brought the word of psalm 46 and 3 women came up and gave their life to christ - one with a child in her arms.
Mark 12:41 was the recited to the people - and I kid you not 70% of the church got in a line, the few small coins clinking in their hands, and walked past the alter - giving sacrifice to God.
And yup, I cried.
But you would’ve too.

Keke

Every time I would sit down - about 5 Haitians would situate around. Community.
Outside for 4 seconds until my computer would fry.
Praying into a sea of black faces.
Women speak right into the microphone if they want to accept Christ.
People Lining up to give the offering.
